VJW
Are there any plans to have an IOS/Android app available? My car does not have a web browser like the Tesla and an app would be far more convenient. Maybe it could also be integrated with CarPlay and AndroidAuto ?
Jason-ABRP
We would definitely love to build an iOS / Android app, but Bo and I are pretty short on time as-is, if we find the right person to help out it's very high on our priority list! Android Auto and CarPlay are different stories, I've done a lot of investigation as I have a Bolt which doesn't have a browser. Android Auto is very restrictive right now, unless your phone is rooted it's very difficult to get a display into Android Auto. I'm not as familiar with CarPlay, but I suspect it's similarly restrictive. Once we have an app, Auto / CarPlay will definitely rise up the priority list. For now, a pretty good workaround is to use the "webapp" feature that most browsers offer. In Chrome you can go to A Better Route Planner, select the ⋮ button and pick "Add to Home Screen". When you open that link, it'll be full-screen and work mostly like an app on your phone. Not as good as a native app, but not terrible either!
jakeholland
@Jason (ABRP) - I am an iOS developer, and I would love to chat with you! I don’t necessarily have a bunch of free time, but would love to take point on development.
Jason-ABRP
Shoot me and @Bo (ABRP) an email (jason@abetterrouteplanner.com & bo@abetterrouteplanner.com), we'd love to chat!
TM3
PLEASE!! I would happily pay a reasonable price for an iOS or Android version. Love the site but an app would be much easier to navigate the input of data on a small screen. Edited March 26, 2019 by TM3
Jason-ABRP
This is very high on our priority list. Will definitely update here when we have news on this front!
Rolf
Make a app and get rich When Abetterrouteplanner is as great as it is I guess many of us will gladly pay between 5-10 $ for it so hope you get it done
digitalw0lf
Hey @Jason (ABRP), if you're still considering an Android app, I'd be willing to assist. I've done some Android development, and would be happy to help on this. As a new EV owner considering a long road trip in September, having a native solution would be awesome. Jason-ABRP
Absolutely! Send me and Bo an email (jason@abetterrouteplanner.com and bo@abetterrouteplanner.com) and we'll talk some details.
Canadian Bolter
I have a Bolt and an iPhone. so much is missing that a Tesla driver takes for granted - long road trips need an embarrassing number of apps. ABRP for iOS with CarPlay that works with a bluetooth odb2 dongle (maybe you sell it) would be amazing. every non-testa owner would buy that app! Simon
Considering how well it works, I would absolutely pay for an app on iOS !
Alexjkz
CarPlay supports third party map apps, Android Auto doesn’t, but they will probably soon because of a lawsuit from the Italian antitrust that’s accusing Google of abuse of dominant position in relation to the fact that also Enel (the Italian electricity provider) wants to develope an app to find their charging stations using Android Auto, but they can’t so they sued Google and because Enel is state-owned they are probably going to win, Google has no reason to keep closed the development of third party map apps! That would be great! We're in the early stages of figuring out the app development, given our small developer team (Me and Bo at the moment) we were leaning toward a universal language like React, so as to reduce the number of codebases we'd have to maintain. It seems we might be able to support Android Auto via React Native, which would be very nice.
Canadian Bolter
I have no data to support this, but there may be a positive correlation between ev owners and iphone owners - perhaps spending more for cars and spending more for phones go together. perhaps start with the iOS app and plan to add android at some point in the future. Harold
Consider using NativeScript (https://www.nativescript.org/) for your App development. One single code base gets you an Android and IOS App with native performance.
Jason-ABRP
Thanks for the suggestions! NativeScript, as well as React Native were on our radar as possibilities, it also seems that both might offer the capability to run on the site as well, reducing the number of codebases by one more. Padraigdc
I would happily pay for an iOS carplay integrated app in the morning. Also love to help beta testing of you need helping out.
Rav
How about set up a go fund me. I would and I’m sure many others were donated to the development and maybe those who donated go fund me get the app at a discount or for free. Have different perk levels. Rav
@Jason (ABRP) An Indigogo funding campaign would probably be successful to help you hire app developers. The nice thing about indigogo is the extended goals so you can tier the fundraising goals.

PoppleBuggle
Also another thing you might not of considered is visibility & popularity. I’d consider myself very knowledgable on EV’s but I never knew ‘A Better Route Planner’ existed until I joined the Tesla Facebook groups and saw it regularly recommended. Whenever I have looked for EV Charging maps and EV tools I just looked on the IOS App Store. Never considered looking for a website as I would be using it on my phone. I think a lot of users will be in the same situation especially EV Drivers who are less obsessed with Tesla So I think having an app will increase the number of users considerably Edited June 29, 2019 by PoppleBuggle Typo and missed iff

I emailed you last week. What I'm basically going to do is build something like google map app
Jason-ABRP
We love open source, but we're not sure how well it fits with what we're trying to do, we're happy to discuss it with you on email and see what we can work out. I believe Bo replied to the email you sent us, perhaps it got lost in your spam folder somewhere?
