To verify and improve our models we need your feedback.  There's many ways we could use help if you actually own one:

  • Drive a plan and compare it to the actual battery used.
  • Drive a plan with the browser active, and update your actual battery percentage in the browser.
  • Contribute data via OBD or other methods.

The best way to improve the data is to provide data directly from the car.  Connecting your car not only improves the models, but allows you to follow up directly in the car while driving! We have several ways of doing that, but we need your help to figure out what will work with your car:

  • An OBD reader can be used in concert with a custom app like LeafSpy, or a PID list and Torque Pro.
  • If your manufacturer has an API to access data from the car we can set up access to that API, like we do for Tesla

Amazing work and will use this planner next year when my Kona 64kwh arrives!

Will drive from south to north Sweden ?

But i dont understand why it want to charge to such a high state of charge when i can finish to next charger with ease? 

As i understand the charingspeeds drops at ~73% on a fastcharger?

Hello. I just verified the planner on a trip I made and the results are consistant with my past experience .

There is a problem anyways: the planned version tell me to spend 20 minutes at a fast charger to get my battery level from 66% to 89%. This is not possible because fast charging will be slower at higher battery level.

Last time I made the trip with the same speed (130km/h on the highway), I made the first 200km, then use a 44kwh charger to gain 38% (19% to 57%) in about 35 minutes. The charge speed was nominal during the whole time. Hyundai document say high speed charge is disabled after 80% and from other sources (like above) it slows down even before that.

My planned trip was in France, 78400 Chatou to 49100 Angers.  (the charger I used was "Réseau Corri-Door | Intermarché Le Mans").

My planned trip was in France, 78400 Chatou to 49100 Angers, with 2 passengers.  In real life, with a ~50 km/h head-on wind , I used approximately 40% of battery load every 100km at 130km/h (or 26.5kwh/100km). I started at 100%, down to 19% at LeMans, added 38%, then down to 19% at Angers.  The Charger was "Réseau Corri-Door | Intermarché Le Mans" and the bill was 8 euros.

I pulled the Kona charge curve from real life data sources like the FastNed charge curves and videos like this one from Bjorn Nyland.  They quite clearly show that the Kona can charge faster than a Level 2 charger on a DCFC above 80%, not tapering to that level until the high 90s in percentage.

Perhaps the planner selected that charger because of its proximity to the route, so you spend less time getting to it to make up for the tapered speed? Alternately, we do prioritize charging locations with more than one stall, since it reduces the risk that you'll arrive and the charger is non-functional.

If you'd like to skip a charger while driving, just drive past it in driving mode and should offer to replan.

Hyundai Kona 64kWh
Trip: Hoofddorp (Netherlands) to Diegem (Brussels, Belgium)
Distance: 204 km
Temperature: 15 degreess
Start battery: 100%
Speed: max speed (between 100km/h and 130km/h, 1 coffee break)

After 204 km the tools shows that the remaining battery is 34%.

Last week I tested this and when arriving the battery was at 50%.

Should I change some parameters? The planner tells me to charge my car on a 275 km trip to Cologne. Why should I charge? 275 km is _EASY_ to do.

Click along the route to see what speed we're planning for, when I routed along that route it suggested a speed closer to 140km/h which is substantially higher consumption than an average speed of 115km/h.  If you change the max speed or speed multiplier to more accurately reflect the speed you're actually driving, you'll get a closer result.  

Perhaps you had a slight tailwind on that trip?

We have OBD setup instructions on the planner, you'll need Torque Pro and an OBD adapter, then follow the instructions under "Show More Settings > Live Car Connection > Setup"

Sorry to be so dense, but can you pls provide step by step instructions? What is the url for the planner and how do i get torque pro and an old adaptor? Where is show more settings live car connection? I’m lost here.

Then all you have to do is follow the step-by-step instructions on the Setup popup.

This week end I have driven 900km with my kona with 99% of highway

Weather was changing a lot of. But recalculation applied a 167wh/100km

Front wind during 350km at 50km/h

And the rest front/west at 25km/h

Most of the time my speed was 123km/h  (from GPS) 

Rain during half time, here abetterrouteplanner was a little bit optimistic. And even when road was wet consumption was higher than expected

I personally like my OBDLink LX, works quite well and is very fast.  A lot cheaper, but slower read speed, is BAFX reader.  I have amazon links to both on the "Setup" instructions on the planner (Settings > More Settings > Live Data > Setup)

Thanks! I appreciate the information.  Actually, it'd be even more helpful if you could film a full charge session (or take notes) and send me the actual kW levels, something like this:

 

Then I can get it even more accurate than just a simple multiplier.

Thanks Jason, will try to record a full charge soon. However, I have done more calculating and actually it seems, you calculate the charging times for the 39 kWh model quite correct. In perfect battery conditions (cell-temp >25 deg Celsius)

For instance ABRP calculates 25 Mins for a charge from 30% soc to 75% soc. This is correct and calculates with the max 46 kW charging rate (until 54% soc and slower further on) This is perfect. The reason for discrepancies seem to be slower real charging rates due to the temperature effect in low temperatures. For instance the mentioned charge would last About 8 mins. longer in low temperature conditions. Probably that was the reason for questioning the calculated rates. A user in the german Forum www.goingelectric.de asked the Question. ?

Ah, that's good to know!

Charge speeds in cold weather is something we've been trying to figure out an effective implementation on for a long time because every manufacturer does it wildly differently, so implementing a constistent model across all vehicles is difficult.

@Jason (ABRP) The 2020 Kona adds a battery warmer. Does this affect your curves?  I just got my car yesterday, I plan on trying to get EVnotify set up tomorrow, happy to provide data to help answer that question if needed.  Have yet to get below about 75% charge, but it's going to be in the 30s around here the next couple days.

It definitely will, I think we'll need to add a planner setting for "has battery warmer" or not, as this will add a lot of variance between car models.  With the new app and the "Calibration" mode, we'll actually adjust to the battery warmer or not as present on your car, so you'll get that benefit immediately! (Assuming EVNotify provides Power output readings for the Kona, and not just State of Charge)

I haven't gotten it set up yet, sadly. I have an ancient OBDLink that's been discontinued and am having difficulty getting its Bluetooth to connect.  Their support is trying to help, but I may have to buy a new one...  I'll post here when I get it set up so I can make sure EVnotify provides the needed info.  I can always try torque if I need to.

Has anyone got the correct settings for Torque to allow me to use a Kona profile right. Once I can get it set up correctly I'll be in a position to share the Data. 

Or can someone recommend another forum which is set up for that.
