2020 Kia Soul 64kW - using Alpha model

Recommended Posts

I had a trip of 309km (not really long but my longest to-date) - it was a round trip from north of Toronto to West Toronto then the Niagara area and back the same way in two days. I used the Alpha version and found that I seemed to do better on battery consumption. On the first day going slightly downhill it was 7.5km/kWh and the return going slightly uphill was 6.8km/kWh. The total journey based on the ABRP said it would be 5.77km/kWh and I ended up with roughly 7.15 average. This is not a simple average since I drove around a little more in Niagara on the Lake but maybe close enough.

I started with 99% and ended with 36% battery capacity. The ABRP model suggested I would have 26% left. The drive was a mix of highway , urban and rural (roughly 65%, 20%, 15% respectively), AC on for about 60% of the time overall. Extrapolating suggests that the total range could have been 490km and that was with AC on for a significant part of the journeys - without it we may well have been close to the stated range of 505km at 99%. Being hopeful of course! My driving style on the two days was noted as 89% economical and 11% normal.

I changed the km/kWh reference consumption number to 5.45 km/kWh and it gave a closer estimate of the total journey results but I confess I "don't know what I am doing" and suspect it is not that simple!  I certainly recognize now that there are quite a number of factors involved.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback! The alpha model is intentionally a little conservative, until we're very sure about the model we don't want to over-promise performance.  This can be helped by driving with Live Data, which I've just added for the 2020 Soul EV.  Have a look at the setup instructions in More Settings > Live Data > Setup (You may have to refresh ABRP to see this).

Hi,

I got my e-soul (soul EV 2020 for you, yes i'm in France ? 64kW 3 weeks ago and I would like to help you on some of my trips and daily routes ...

So I bought an Obdlink and got all these things to work ...

To link the datas from OBD to ABRP I use Ev notify but Ev notify doesn't have a working e-soul profile. The soul EV profile doesn't work because I think it's intended to be used with the "old" soul EV. Ev notify only works with Kona EV or Niro EV profile selected so I don't know if you will get the good car from my live reports as it shows kona64 or niro64 in the ABRP live status. I didnt find a way to setup my car without using a planned route and I don't know if this is even linked with the datas I will send in this case !!!!

Can you please tell me what I should do in order that you get the right car for the datas I will send you.

Thanks in advance for answer an sorry for my english !!!

If you've got an Android you can use Torque Pro to get the data, the setup instructions are on the planner site (Settings > More Settings > Live Data > Setup).  I'll ping the EVNotify guy about the Soul 64, it's got the same PIDs as the Kona and Niro as the drivetrain is nigh identical.

Hi,

I knew the Soul 64 had the same drivechain than the Kona and Niro ? that's why I tried these seetings !!!

I went for the Torque solution as you telled me to and it seems that all is working, but I have some questions :

Is the recording working even when the app isn't launched or ABRP open on the android device ? I'm asking because as soon as I plug the OBD adapter in I get a notification that Torque is sending datas.

I had the system working for some minutes while my car was charging, can you see if you got some datas ? If yes can you confirm me that it's ok ? I'm asking because tomorrow I wanted to do some tests with the car and so you may get some interesting datas !!!! I'm planning to do a 30km loop three times on highway, one at 90km/h, one at 110km/h and one at 130km/h ... are there some other tests that would be useful for you ?

Another strange thing, while I was charging the report on ABRP website showed "No" in the charging square ...

Thanks for answers !!!

All good questions!

Since we can't control Torque remotely (nor would we want to) Torque will send us data whenever it's connected.  If you pull up the website and click "View Live Data", you can see what we're receiving from Torque.  If you're seeing it on the website, we're receiving it!  To stop Torque from sending data, just disconnect from Bluetooth or exit the Torque application (or as you discovered, disconnect your OBD dongle)

For some vehicles (I think the Soul is one) our "Charging" parameter is actually the DC Fast Charge port status, so it may only report "Charging Yes" when you're at a fast charger.

Hi,

As I told you I drove near 200kms last friday.

I did my 25-30km loop 4 times (I added 1 loop at 130km/h with heating on, all other loops were with climate control totally off)

I was thinking to myself that the french e-soul didn't have any heat pump and this might corrupt a little bit the datas I sent you.
I was wondering if you get the detail of the car consuption (motor/climate control/electronics/battery care) as I can see it on my car main display ...
