OBD Link LX Support

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I purchased a OBD Link LX support to use with EV Notify directly? I see that ABRP has support for an OBD Link CX, but is it also able to support the LX? ABRP link for EVNotify integration points to the LX unit, so I thought they would both be supported.

Note that the LX has the physical button for pairing which makes it a safer unit. The LX works nicely with EVnotify, can it work with ABRP too directly?

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get EVNotify integration to work with ABRP thus far, and even if it did, seems a bit strange to send the data to the EVNotify cloud service only to be read by ABRP?

Regards,

Hemon

If you want to use an OBDLink LX device, you will have to pair it with EVNotify.  You will then need to link ABRP to EVNotify.  Yes, it's data intensive because you have to upload to the EVNotify server and then down load to ABPR on the device.  But it works and the data set is quite complete.  The OBDLink LX devise is Bluetooth only and will not work directly with ABRP.

To connect an OBDII device directly to APRB, it needs to be BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy?) compatible.  The OBDLink LX does not offer that functionality.  The OBDLink CX device is BLE (but not regular Bluetooth).  When an OBDLink CX device is connected directly to ABRP, the data set is slightly truncated but it's less data intensive.  To note, the OBDLInk CX devise does not work with EVNotify because EVNotify is not being updated anymore and predates BLE.

Hope this helps

Thanks Ou Boet ... does ABRP work to get the correct data from an Ioniq 2018 using OBDLink CX?

Also I don't understand why BLE has to be a prerequisite for it to work, seems that if the phone can talk to the LX device the link is already supported with EVNotify (and other apps), it should be supportable with ABRP. If it is purely an issue with low energy usage and not draining the 12V battery, there already are enough warnings on this when enabling the various integrations anyway. I've left the LX device in my car over extended periods and it hasn't drained the car. It would be nice to understand what the real limitations are.

The reason why I want to get the LX one to work is because I purchased it (and it's not the cheapest dongle either) specifically thinking it was the best for purpose as I was looking at ABRPs integration with EVNotify - but it seems that a direct integration to the BT-CAN dongle is a much better idea.
