Live Data with IOS & Chevrolet Bolt

Question

I've spent quite a while trying to figure out a way to use Live Data with ABRP, IOS & a Chevrolet Bolt.  I'm going on a long road trip soon and I'm little worried about some of these charging recommendations working out.  So if anyone could provide some input I would be very thankful.  Here are a few options:

1.  Is there an affordable way to connect chevy bolt to the live data features via obd via an ios phone?  (I've seen one website out there that pulls data directly from onstar, that could be an affordable development option for ABRP in the future)

2.  Any recommendations for a good calibration value for running the AC the whole time?  I feel like the starting value is very high.  Or perhaps methods to generate a good value?

3.  Any other options or recommendations?

Thanks a lot!

ad 1. You can use evnotify on iOS. If you run abrp in carplay and evnotify on the iphone it should work. Alternatively you buy a cheap andriod phone (or use old iphone) to use evnotify and set your regular phone up as hotspot (en runnning abrp).

Hi @Brett,

1. As Barry mentions it is possible to use EVNotify on iOS as long as the app is kept active. This, or a cheap Android device would be the most affordable option for you. AutoPi is otherwise a standalone solution for iOS users but the hardware comes at a higher price and is a bit more technical to set up for the first time. All available options can be seen here: https://abetterrouteplanner.com/compare/livedata/

Generally API data (which I assume this is) doesn't quite live up to the quality we'd prefer but it's for sure something we could look into. I can see that OnStar supports both the Bolt EV, Bolt EUV and GMC's HUMMER EV (possibly they'll add the Silverado EV coming in 2023 also). May I ask what website you've found?

2. We do add a bit of margin, roughly 10% just to keep users who don't use live data on the safe side of calculations. It can absolutely be adjusted if you feel we're too pessimistic.

3. Don't know if your car has the option to use CarPlay wirelessly, but currently we recommend to use a wired connection to avoid any issues.

@Katya-ABRP & @BarryH ,

Thanks for the responses.

1.  I did see a lot of information on the forums about EVNotify on iOS and am certainly open to trying that.  However, I noticed that an iOS app isn't really mentioned on the EVnotify website, that the app has not been updated in over a year, and that Chevrolet Bolt is not listed as a compatible vehicle in the app notes.  Is all of that of low importance for effective connectivity with ABRP?

Concerning the website that uses data from OnStar.  It's a new program from PlugShare called PlugInsights.  It collects data about your usage and battery levels and provides a monthly report on estimated battery performance and degradation \ battery life.  It's possibly chevy doesn't allow sufficient data resolution for real time trip planning.

2.  Once I figured out that values are shown in kilometers instead of miles it makes more sense now, I might make further adjustments since I'll be using the AC most of the time.

3.  I believe only wired connections are possible on 2021 and below.

Thanks!
