Distance to next manoeuvre in yards/miles

Recommended Posts

Hi, please can you look into showing the distance to next manoeuvre in yards or miles when above a certain distance. At the moment it only shows in feet, so for example you might get an instruction like: in 11735 feet take the first exit. This instruction would be much more useful if it said in 2.2 miles take the first exit.

Hi, I’m using the latest version of iOS with ABRP 4.0.46 (460). The improvement I suggested is for CarPlay (but I’m pretty sure it’s the same on android auto). My premium subscription has unfortunately run out ?, so I cat provide a screenshot.

Hi @InDie.3,

Thank you. CarPlay and Android Auto works slightly different. Android Auto is a separate instance running while CarPlay is more of a direct mirroring of the iOS app. However, the data sent to CP needs to be correctly converted before displayed and this is where things seem to have gone wrong. Normally we shouldn't be displaying yards for longer distances.

I can see this is a bug we've actually already noted and we'll be looking into it.

I have just tested this on my Android phone and it has a similar issue: it is showing thousands of feet or miles to the next manoeuvre but nothing in between, e.g. yards. It would be nice if it it showed: miles for long distances, then it changes to yards, then to feet as you approach the junction, roundabout, etc

I want to add on that, with version 4.0.47 I get distances to next manoeuvre displayed in meters which results in a pretty big number of course. And also from my feeling the manoeuvres are often displayed way to early or unneccessary. See screenshot attached. I think >50 km is a bit too early displayed. Also I'm not sure if it is not the better choice just not to display driving instructions which are basically just "Keep going straight ahead". Because the space on screen is fairly limited for most cars I'd say.

Hi @InDie.3, @cent, @Andrew Woodley, @Jiji,

I think I can see a pattern here actually. In the provided screenshots, it seems that the times we use small units for large numbers are also when going straight ahead. We're actually not supposed to give this instruction, at least not as a blue (active) navigation instruction. It is absolutely way too early.

We are currently still looking into this issue with units based on the information Andrew has reported earlier. I'll add this information to the report.

Andrew: just to confirm, would you say that we always select the wrong unit (ft instead of yards) in CarPlay or does it perhaps only happen in situations like the ones seen in the screenshots above?
