General bugs on AA beta

Recommended Posts

First of all, thank you for making this awesome tool and making it so easy to get on the AA beta. I've been playing with it a few days ahead of a planned family vacation. Trip is about 240 miles each way and your app is giving me the tools and confidence to take my car on this type of trip. Here are some general experience issues:

Startup sequence is critical: power on car, wait for obd dongle to connect, open EVNotify and let it sync, open ABRP app select route and start navigating, then connect to AA. This type of sequencing is expected in beta, if possible it would be great if it became less critical. Understood some of this is beyond your control.

ABRP gets stuck open running in background about 50% of the time, requiring a restart of the phone to resolve. I'm still expiramenting if there is a "shutdown sequence" that prevents this. I will report back.

Once a route has finished I have been unable to clear current route and start a new one without disconnecting from Android Auto.

I've experienced numerous wrong speed limit postings (wrong speed and wrong transitions as much as several miles off). I belive this is a problem with the source map and nothing with your programming.

I do appreciate that the "recalculating" feature isn't overly aggressive and gives you the opportunity to attempt re obtaining the planned route or continuing and waiting for rerouting instructions. One suggesting for a new feature would be to allow the user to influence the weight of the variable used to control the aggressiveness of the rerouting. While I like how it's set now I know a few people that would get very frustrated if it didn't reroute sooner.

My setup is as follows:

2019 Chevy Bolt (base model) updated to current firmware/recall "patch"

SAMSUNG A51 5g UW Android 11

OBD II scanner: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FWRH32V/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_glt_fabc_C8P2X521SZ7M9ZHPG4N6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Hi @Tron-82,

We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the app!

At the moment we don't have the option to streamline your startup sequence. As the Chevy Bolt can only connect to ABRP through a third party device and app, the startup will be a bit inconvenient. But if your vehicle starts supporting other ways of sharing live data that might change. Keep an eye out at https://abetterrouteplanner.com/compare/livedata/ where we will make sure to update if anything changes.

Please let us know if you find any patterns in the shutdown sequence. In the meantime know that we are constantly working to make the app and Android Auto more stable. As for not being able to start a new route without disconnecting from Android Auto, this seems to be a bug. We will look into what's causing it and try to correct the issue.

Indeed the data about speed limits is tied to Open Street Map, which is an open source project. If you know of any incorrect speed limits you are welcome to edit in Open Street Map. Go to https://www.openstreetmap.org/.

Thank you for your suggestions! The re-routing will change slightly in the next release, perhaps to your liking. You are welcome to provide feedback when you've tried it out.

/Sofia

Hi @Tron-82

can you please provide more details on "Once a route has finished I have been unable to clear current route and start a new one without disconnecting from Android Auto."? What happens if you want to stop the route and replan? Or what would you expect to happen?
