Possible bug. Two TM3 cars, same EPA range and all same ABRP settings, but different results.

Recommended Posts

When playing around with the site, I stumbled across this results discrepancy.  Same starting point, destination point, settings, etc., the only change is a 2021 Tesla Model 3 SR+ vs a 2018-2020 Tesla Model 3 Mid-Range (18" Aero).  The EPA range estimate is 263 miles vs 260-264 respectively. The 2018 Mid-Range had the only 260 mile EPA estimate.  The results discrepancy is that the 2021 model (263 mile range) requires 3 supercharging stops and the 2018-2020 model (260-264 mile range) takes 2 supercharging stops.

On both vehicles, I am modifying these settings from the default:  10% battery degradation, Temperature = 38F, extra weight = 300 lb.  Increasing the temperature to 58F doesn't change the results, so I don't think it's a heat pump/winter driving efficiency problem.  Reversing the starting point and end point give the same result.

2021 Model (with a heat pump) shows a 1/2 hour longer trip:  https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?plan_uuid=e9f4f879-b8ab-47f3-9f8b-aacbf896ab7a

2018-2020 Model (no heat pump), https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?plan_uuid=e205100f-cf61-4dd0-b382-76b1127b171c

Is this a bug or is there another reason for the differing results?
