iPhone/iOS users

Recommended Posts

Hi

I’m new. I’ll be taking delivery of a Kona in January.

I’ve read around the site. Can’t find anything on uploading live data from an iPhone. Looks like the best OBD apps fir iPhone are either OBDII Auto Doctor or EngineLink. They also seem particular about what OBD units they will talk to e.g. Vgate iCAR BLE.

I would welcome any recommendations, even if that is to wait awhile. Thanks.

I look forward to sharing Kona data from an Irish road user using my iPhone.

If you're willing to give them a try, all we need is a server logging capability to make it work.  If you get an OBD adapter, you can probably get some data to toy with off your current vehicle. I believe EngineLink can take custom PID lists, if they also offer webserver logging then that's the best way to go!

I'm happy to give you a hand troubleshooting / figuring out what works on iPhone, I don't have one myself so I can't do anything directly.

I’ve been back to the car showroom to check the OBD location on the Kona. Unfortunately it has a cover over it like a fuse box cover. An OBD dongle will probably not fit without leaving the cover off which I’m unhappy about.

Therefore I’m afraid I have to abandon the whole idea. Pity! Thanks anyway.  I don’t know if left hand drive would be different but I doubt it.

I have an Ioniq Electric. I bought a cheapish android phone and installed Torque. the OBD2 adaptor is the KONNWEI ELM327 from Amazon for about 18 Euro. It took a bit to configure, mostly because I know nothing about Android but with the help of Youtube and websites, I got it working. Next thing is to try to see if I can get it working with a better route planner.

Then our next best course of action would be to get in contact with one of those developers and see if any of them would be willing to add something like what we're looking for.  Which app seems most fully featured / easily usable to you? I'll try them first.

EngineLink seems to be very popular with the iOS folks. That's what I'm using. It would be great if you could get them to put what you need for ABRP in their app!
