Car Play Feedback

Recommended Posts

Hi, I used ABRP Carplay now the last two days and what I want to know is, why is ABRP every 2 minutes or so recenter the Map? It seems there is some traffic jam in front of us and it adjust to that point and goes imidiatly back to us and recenter the map. Is that a bug or feature?

I am testing ABRP with a Mini Electric L3.

I have seen an number of the items listed above, such as maps jumping, and also the fact if you turn off your phone screen the map halts on CarPlay.

The one thing I want to check on, is that I have looked at integrating Tronity with the app, and whilst I can assign the Tronity feed to the ABRP app, as soon as the phone connects to CarPlay connection to Tronity is lost, and I loose any benefits it gives from having the live feed.

I am guessing its because the default Wi-Fi is now CarPlay and the ABRP app is attempting to connect to Tronity over that Wi-Fi connection, which does not have internet access. After that Tronity does not reconnect on its own, even when the car is switched off and the device moves to 4G, and Tronity stays suck on “Not Authorised”.

Is there a way to choose to route ABRP connections over Data rather than Wi-Fi? I can imagine this would need to be a switch as some cars have hotspots built in, or will use a tethered USB connection for CarPlay, and being forced to do navigation over 4G may not be the preference for those drivers?

One of the key benefits I can see of switching to ABRP is that live feed and adjusting the route based on battery/range if needed - however in its current guise it appears this is impossible to realise.

I’ve been trying to use the app on CarPlay today an was encountering show stoppers. Quite often the app told me that the current plan was no longer viable. When I then tried to choose one of the alternative routes, pressing launch crashed the app every single time. It was then also impossible to start it again from CarPlay, as it would first show Stockholm in the map, then some uncolored terrain, and after about two seconds it would crash again. Tried that about fifteen to twenty times, no luck.

I’m using an iPhone 11 running iOS 15.0, ABRP version 4.1.0 with a connection to TRONITY, and the car is an VW ID.3 with the current software version (2.1).

I‘ve had this behaviour on my long trips as well. Plus the Problem with the map hopping to some place and recentering on the correct position a few seconds later. And then always the message, that another route is available. And here is the most show-killing problem. It doesn‘t show which route it is and if he plans different chargers enroute. In general he doesn‘t show on CarPlay the next planned charging location. Only the expected soc there.

I never have my smartphone at hand in my car. But currently you very often must use it to see/adjust things, that you‘re not able to on CarPlay.

So would be really nice to fix the map issues, replanning enroute and display possibility for the next planned charger.

Anyway, I‘ve tried so many planning tools. No one can reach abrp yet. So I am and will stay a satisfied premium customer

It also does not show you a good difference what part of the route you already have accomplished and what part you still need to drive. I had the Issue most of the times that when I charged and something happed It started the rout new on my first starting point and then it calculated a route that I have to travel back and forth again.... Which was not was no longer viable. Only why to go on was, stopping navigation. Removing the stops till the actual one. Starting navigation.

I also head some times the situation that he suggests a new route, shows  me the number of stops and so on. and when I select the new route It just jumped back to the old one and suggested me after 1 minute new routes....

Hi, how do I change map orientation from north up, and is the an option to display nearest charger status or do I have to navigate to it? iOS version for Leaf 40 subscriber. Also, can we set the app to have an option of choosing "max motorway" as the suggested route often prefers country roads to minimize consumption ?

Can anyone confirm if the Live Status of charger that one is navigating to should be visible in the head unit for a Lef 40 running Carplay on ios 15 as I cannot seem to see it. It seems to be visible on the phone screen but not the Head unit ?

@Jason-ABRP are you able to confirm this? Also don’t get it in our Enyaq and would have expected it. Is it on the backlog somewhere?

Also notice that the app can freeze and not update the map but not had time to work out what’s doing it. Think it may be when you try to use the phone for something else while on CarPlay.

For me it's the same. I use the phone as a second screen, as it shows more detail.

Love ABRP and think it is of tremendous utility, and would love to see further refinement of the CarPlay function.

Some tweaks/options I'd suggest:

> It would be nice to be able to set the carplay map to display in night mode during the day. I've tried setting "always dark" on the phone, but this doesn't seem to alter on the car screen. The mapbox maps are not terrifically appealing visually, and are (I find) easier on the eye in night mode.

> Display SoC and other information on the screen, when not actively navigating - So when you are not actively using the app for routing, and it is just displaying the birdseye view map. This would be a terrific feature for those of use with cars with inadequate native data readouts in their cars, particularly where they have live data from tronity/obd etc.

> Maybe a little "widget" version such as you have with google or apple maps, when on the split carplay screen

Thanks,

What about enabling ABRP on CarPlay Dashboard?

I agree that this (enabling "Dashboard" mode) would be great - ABRP doesn't seem to use a lot of the screen during full-screen mode (see screen capture) and if it were like Google Maps/Waze/Apple Maps then other apps could be visible and accessible.

During the drive in these screen-captures I was just listening to music but often I am on conference calls on Teams and the small window to the lower-left usually has my mute/unmute controls etc.

I would love to have the option of a Power Consumption graph with the planned consumption and the actual consumed power during a trip on the Apple Carply screen. Today I need to use the phone screen for this. With the odb live data connection this would give me a better information if my planned charging stop is on route or if i might change plan or driving style. To be able to point och the planned route and get this consumption graph on the Carplay Display.

The odb live data was really a x-mas gift :-D

I also expected a live charger status view to appear in CarPlay (Jaguar IPace MY20). Get live status views if I pick up my phone and look there, but not on the CarPlay display. Saw a YouTube video of an Enyaq driver testing out ABRP, and he got this live display on his screen. Hope to see it here soon!

I suspect this is not a CarPlay issue, but since I use the app mostly through CarPlay I thought I'd post in here:

It would be great if the destination search engine can be improved so that when you search for a location it first shows the one closest to you rather than a place in the USA (I am in UK).

Is this still not possible? It’s the big missing feature for me.

Apple CarPlay error

sometimes I get an error message telling me: it's only for premium accounts

This is not an error. CarPlay support is a premium feature. (Unless of course, you are currently subscribed).

Should you come across any other issues, please submit them in our new bug tracker over at https://abrp.upvoty.com/

For me the Carplay app crashes when I try to open it. I am using an iPhoneSE, iOS 15.6.1. App version is 4.2.10 (1065). The EV is a 2019 eTron, I also tried it in a different car (non EV) with the same result. I am a Premium user.

Does anyone have any diagnostic steps I can take to get it working?

I am also missing the charging info screen on the carplay display (e-golf), i have seen videos on youtube where people have it (attaching a screenshot with an id3 i think) but might have used the android auto version (not sure on that). I only get the charging info on the iphone itself (when choosing advanced view), also attaching that screenshot on the phone view and carplay view for that situation.

I am getting a loaner android phone at the weekend so i can test it on my e-golf. It would be really nice to have it on the carplay screen (else whats the point, right? 😉 )

I have since gotten a loaner Android Phone and tested again (screenshot of android auto attached!)

It seems that on android you get an extra window for charging. on carplay you do not.

Is there any plan to flesh out the carplay version or is it a limitation from apple? Since you can display driving directions on carplay i would figure you could show any other info on carplay aswell.
