ABRP losing connection to battery status

Recommended Posts

Description:  ABRP loses connection to the battery status of my car after a while. Then I have to log out og MyTesla and back in again. Then it seems to work again for a while, but then the app stalls again. Right now there are no updates since yesterday evening and the car has been charging since. The drives from Oct. 31st are also missing even though I was driving that day.
Type: This happens both on the app and on the web
Link to Plan: It is a general problem not tied to a plan.
Replication Steps: The issues happens after a while. I had a long drive yesterday and it worked after logging out and in again. After I came home the battery status hasn't updated in ABRP.

Hi @Nikolaj, @Mats Persson,

Tesla's servers can in some cases unauthorize the token, which is created for the connection when you log in as we don't store the actual password. This usually happens when the password for the MyTesla account is changed or similar but it can also happen for other reasons, only Tesla themselves can really answer to that.

We will of course monitor this issue and we'll also improve and add a status for the connection letting users know when the connection has been broken. Have you tried logging out and logging back in?

Yes - Similar to Mats' problem. I've logged out and in again several times only to get a short online period after which the connection is lost.

With such an unstable connection the app is not really working as intended.

@Katya (ABRP) can you see in a log what happens? My app lost connection 08-11-2020 at 14.10.43 CET.

Thanks

Nikolaj

Hi @Mats Persson, @Nikolaj,

We're still looking into this but we've changed how we treat getting a 401 (error message) back from Tesla, making further attempts to poll the vehicle before actually settling at the token has been unauthorized. It may be that Tesla has some kind of issue on their side, or that they throw this response at random. Could you try again and see if it helped?

Nikolaj: I can see that we've polled the vehicle this morning 10-11-2020 08:51:47 CET to check if the vehicle was awake. No proper response was given at that time, which is quite common with Tesla but there has also been a long series of no data being fetched. The latest time we successfully fetched data was 08-11-2020 14:10:44 CET, same time as you mention.

I have test a route today.

Updated battery status in the beginning untill I made a check the settings and made a update on the route. Then a lost the batteri status. Must then log out and I to Tesla.

Test update the route more times and lose the battery status.

Not so satisfide of that.

On not is 1 or 2 % differens between Tesla and Routplaner battery %.

Hi again,

@Mats Persson, I can see that we initially got data for your car until about 14:55 CET, then there was multiple failed attempts but shortly after, at about 15:07 CET we had successful requests again. Since then there has been no failed requests. Little bit unsure if you tried to logout/in at around 15:00 CET to restart it?

@Nikolaj, Doesn't look so good for your connection however. Requests were successful until 13:54:23 CET however now we're not receiving anything.

We'll keep looking, definitely. If you are using any other apps/services which can retrieve information about your car have you seen any issues similar to this?

Thanks for the detective work!

Yes - I've noticed that a charge monitoring app that I have shows similar problems. If the case is the car, maybe I should try factory resetting it... Strange that this suddenly appears as I don't think there has been significant changes.

@Nikolaj okay, then it could very well be;

- Something with the car itself, or
- That the car communicates via Tesla servers that have issues

Or, that Tesla has made some change/mistake which only impacts a number of cars (because yes, it is strange that is happened all sudden). Either way we haven't gotten reports indicating that it would be a problem general for Tesla users. You're supposedly just unlucky ?

Hi @Nikolaj,

Which charge monitoring app was it that displayed similar issues?

/Katya

Hi

It is a Danish app called True Energy - It can time charging according to co2 levels and energy price. I readded the car to that app a couple of days ago and it seems to be working now. But I will continue monitoring if it works.

I made a factory reset of the car on Saturday and readded the car to ABRP but it stopped updating the same afternoon ?
