Description:  Support for Android Automotive

Use Case: I would love to see abrp in my cars infotainment system (polestar 2).I

would use it every day then. On the phone it feels somewhat wrong, if the car is a full android system :). Thank you

Not going to happen.

Google only accepts audio media apps and messaging apps from third parties on Android Automotive OS. And even these are limited, i.e. arbitrary UIs are not allowed.

No navigation, or other attentionion grabbing apps.

The Android Auto is another option, but it also has limits, but things are being slowly relaxed. AFAIK, navigation is still not allowed fully. And you still need to go through the approval.

I know that getting an app devleloped for android auto is a pain and last i knew Google were still only allowing closed beta testing of navigation apps. But would it not be possible to have the ABRP, calculate the route, detect if the phone is connected to android auto and if it is, rather than running ABRP as a navigation app, send google maps the navigation intent for the next charge / destination. Then ABRP could just display the useful information it's using to plan the route.

Is there any progress on this? Would love to see it in my Polestar 2!

You and potentially a few thousand Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 P8 owners, with other Volvos moving to Android Automotive in the future.

When will It come to Volvo XC40 P8?

Good question. The Polestar version is actually 'sponsored' by Polestar AB - I think that ABRP has gotten around the current restrictions that AAOS currently seems to impose on apps by being approved by Polestar. I imagine that vehicle OEMs are allowed to approve any apps they want (that comply with the AAOS UX rules), whilst any other company can only get approval for a media app at the moment.
