Separate options for "Avoid Ferries and Car Trains"

Recommended Posts

Description:  Please provide separate options for "Avoid Ferries" and "Avoid Car Trains"

Use Case: I use Eurotunnel regularly. I do not want to use ferries. While "Avoid Ferries and Car Trains" does still route via Eurotunnel, it is not intuitive - it would be cleaner to have them as separate options.

I would like to also suggest that all of the avoid options be selectable at the same time.  Currently you have to choose which thing to avoid.  Sometimes I would like to avoid both Toll Roads and Highways.

Agreed, the plan I have going forward is to make them in to checkboxes that can be individually selected for a plan.

Abetterrouteplanner is great but it would be even greater if this promise was implemented. Currently it insists the route goes via the Folkestone tunnel to France - there is no way I can see of routing via the ferry instead.

So, this turns out to be a bit more complicated, and resource intensive to implement.  Doable, but haven't spent the time yet to do it.  The main limitation is that we have to cache the entire road network into memory for speed, and for every permutation of checkboxes we have to re-cache the network.  We still intend to add this in as a feature, but it's not a high priority right now.

what about international borders?

With COVID Legally we can not cross from USA to CANADA. There are many routs that from a speed perspective would be fast in precovid times crossing the border. Could you put an inceased delay at the border. if you assume that every border crossing would take 4 hours to cross it would be more accurate in covid times and would fix many routing issues taht are only slightly faster. There should be an international border because even in post covid times there are reasons why border crossing would not be wise such as not have your passport with you.
