P-E
Do the MEB platform have a ODBII connector or is there a other way to get information out? The MEB platform is going to be very common so if there is'nt anything yet hopefully somthing's going to show up as time goes by.
TomTomZoe
Every new car has to have a OBD-II Connector, that‘s a requirement since the last millennium

TomTomZoe
There‘s no difference in this requirement regarding drive type. How should a car workshop diagnose an BEV car if it had no ODB-II? Edited August 8, 2020 by TomTomZoe
P-E
As far as i know... ODBII is mandatory in ICE vehicles not in BEVs due to no emissions. To use the ODBII starndard in BEVS would be smart but it's a "open" standard that we can use. I therefore fear that they will use a proprietary conector. Tesla got a connector of their own. So there was room for an adapter for a ODBII dongle. Anyone seen what ID.3 got?
conny
There is a OBDII port in the ID.3. But I´m still trying to find the right PIDs to read out all the juicy stuff, especially the things needed for ABRP. I´ll get back when I have more info.

Are there some similarities to other existing cars? There is no big difference between BEV and fossil-cars. The main challenge with VW cars and that affects ID.3 too, is that VW has chosen to put a CAN-gateway between the OBDII port and all the units on the CAN bus, so on most of the other cars you just listen to the chatter on the CAN network and with some tricks learn all the PID:s. So for the ID.3 and the rest of the VW cars, you either need to connect to the CAN bus after the gateway, and that is the "best'" solution, or if you know what questions to send to the gateway, you can get the answers. I have not decided what solution I will use. If someone here in the forum has a good connection at a VW certified repair shop, please connect me with him/her. Until then, I'll continue my search the hard way.
