Rotknecht
Hi, I've been trying to plan ABRP for some time now and I'm thrilled. It is now the case that my new KIA e-Niro 2020 will soon be at the door. So now my question: How to enter "extra weight"? Or, what "basis weight" is used in the planning? The empty weight from the manufacturer (for the Kia e-Niro here 1812kg)? Is the driver already included with 70kg? Or what weight is stored in ABRP? greetings Marco
TomTomZoe
@Rotknecht With extra weight you can have significant weight additions taken into account for route planning. So everything that exceeds the defined empty weight of the vehicle (which already includes 75kg of a driver). If you ride with 4 persons and luggage you can add the weight of 3 persons and 4 suitcases
Rotknecht
What is the curb weight for the Kia e-Niro (64KW) in ABRP? Can I see that anywhere? Here on the website or something? So the stored weight includes the driver with 75kg. Correct? So if, for example, I weigh 100kg and my wife is traveling with 60kg (without luggage), do I set 85kg as the extra weight? greetings Marco
TomTomZoe
Correct. I assume that ABRP uses the official unladen weight of the vehicles, and that just included the 75kg for the driver. Maybe @Jason (ABRP) can answer the question whether ABRP actually uses the official unladen weight of the vehicle. I will include a better explanation for the extra weight option in the German translation. Edited June 17, 2020 by TomTomZoe
Jason-ABRP
We use the official unladen weight of the vehicle, making no assumptions about the weight of the passengers. Passenger weight makes relatively little difference on planning, though, so I wouldn't worry about it unless you've got a lot of luggage along for the ride. We're actually working on a method to try to automatically determine the "extra weight" parameter if you've got live data, so maybe you won't have to input that manually eventually! Alan N
Hi Jason, I have a Tesla X long range and added weight does absolutely nothing for me. I played around with various weights, replanned, and charging times were the same in a planned route. It varied from 0-5000 pounds. Please advise. Jason-ABRP
Was that on a route with very little elevation change? We've found that weight has very little effect on range when on flat ground, and so we neglect its effect there to improve the computation speed. We may add it back in later. If you're using a live data source which provides all the data needed to calibrate we'll calibrate your consumption curve to include this effect, though, so it'll be very accurate.
