Helping ABRP - Charge Networks

One of the most important things for the accuracy of our plans is the knowledge of Charging Stations.  To help with this knowledge, there are several ways you can help us out:

Contributing to Our Charge Database Partners

Most of our charger knowledge comes from a few excellent databases.  The main ones which are editable are:

  • Supercharge.info - A community run map of supercharging locations
  • Open Charge Map - An open source database of all types of charging locations.  Comprehensive, but sometimes out of date
  • GoingElectric - Focused mainly near Germany, but covers most of Europe
  • Uppladdning.nu - Another open database which focuses mainly on Scandinavia, but covers most of Europe. Note! Only to be used for the following countries; Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden.

A submission made to any of these databases will update plans on A Better Routeplanner within 24 hours.  You can easily find direct links to edit by finding a charger which is out of date on our map, click 'actions' and selecting the edit link on the interface:

596952744_Screenshotfrom2021-05-2816-31-53.png.a5bb6a18eb5d424aaaa8fbaf3b830140.png

This will take you directly to the edit page we have associated with that location.

Raising Awareness with Charge Networks

The best way to improve our charger knowledge is to get it straight from the source.  We're more than happy to work on direct interconnects with all charge networks, no matter how big or small.  We often find, however, they're hard to get in contact with.  If there's a charge network you'd like us to have a direct interconnect with you can send them a tweet:

Quote

@{network} - I love using your chargers on road trips, and I want to use @RouteBetter to plan using your chargers.  If you connect your chargers with their routing, that would be amazing!

Or letter/email:

Quote

To whom it may concern at {Charge Network}

I regularly use your chargers on my electric road trips, and like to use A Better Routeplanner to plan.  I'd love to get more accurate data on your chargers so I can plan my road trips more effectively using your stations.

You can email them at contact@abetterrouteplanner.com or tweet @RouteBetter

Looking forward to an amazing electric drive!

{Your name}

Once we have a direct interconnect we can provide:

  • Automatic routing around full or down stations
  • Suggest an ideal stall for you to charge in (best for your car)
  • Predictive routing using station traffic analytics (Premium feature)

And of course, for any charge networks reading this, we're happy to talk to you about integrating route planning into your own apps to better serve your drivers.

I have been using ABRP quite a bit, but noticed that the Miriam Vale Queensland Australia QESH Charger has disappeared on ABRP for some reason. According to other sites it is still there and currently operational. Could you look at this and re add it?

One of the sources used by ABRP is a Google Sheet spreadsheet that I maintain, of DC chargers (50 kW or greater) in Australia.  It also uses OpenChargeMap and I think data directly from Chargefox.  Miriam Vale exists in all 3 sources so I'm guessing there is something wrong with the import/synchronisation process?

I've noticed the same thing happen with others.  In Tassie there are 8 fast charger sites, only two of them (Queenstown and Campbell Town) are appearing at the moment.

Hi Katya,

It looks like the issue has been resolved - they're all showing up!  Not sure if it was a regular daily sync process or some other manual intervention by another ABRP admin, but it's all OK now!  (was OK about 12 hours after your post but I hadn't got around to coming back here and letting you know, sorry!)

Charles

Hello,

I am ABRP (premium) user and I plan all my routes using your service which is excellent! I try to correct charger data that I find missing or incorrect. In June or July I submitted correct power data for this charger https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?charger_id=8659916 to https://www.goingelectric.de/stromtankstellen/Polen/Lodz/Shopin-Lodz-Brzezinska-292/28736/ (the pictures on that site are from our trip). I also contacted charger operator https://greenwaypolska.pl/ explaining how ABRP works and what data sources it uses. This case was of particular interest for them because this charger was not preferred by ABRP engine with incorrect power info (40 kW for CCS instead of real 90 kW). After the data was corrected your engine started preferring their charger. Greenway contacted goingelectric.de and submitted correct data of their all upgraded chargers. Everything worked fine but recently I noticed the site I mentioned earlier shows 50 kW power and now it is linked to plugsurfing but it is not listed on their site. It is not present in map.openchargemap.io either.

I have three questions:

1. Where does this charger (incorrect) data come from?

2. What should I tell Greenway so they can correct power info again?

3. What will happen in this situation if I submit correct charger info to map.openchargemap.io?

Thanks in advance for helping me to help ABRP

Thanks for being so willing to help out @Radek Wroński! We'd love to connect directly with Greenway, if you'd like to send them our contact info (bo@abetterrouteplanner.com, jason@abetterrouteplanner.com).  Like you say, we're getting the charger data from Plugsurfing, who it seems have generally good live station status, but poor power data for each stall.  We've submitted quite a few issues with their data to them, but it wouldn't hurt to hear it from extra mouths.

If you submitted it to OpenChargeMap, it'd be the same as GoingElectric, our priority when trying to determine what the most accurate charger data is:

  1. First-party information (direct interconnect)
  2. Third-party information (roaming charge operators who have direct non-static information)
  3. Crowd-sourced information (OpenChargeMap, GoingElectric, etc)

Although, sometimes (like with PlugSurfing) it seems that they have static and non-static data mixed, so likely there is some more work to be done to distinguish the two.

Hi @DrJoshua,

First check that your settings and selected car model in ABRP allow you to view them. If they still don't show up please attach the link(s) to the destination(s) and we'd be happy to look into it.

Indeed, that made the trick. Being default is not to show "slow chargers" 11 kW and below. Maybe a good thing but I hadn´t noticed that. Thx for super quick help.

Dear ABRP,

I would love to use ABRP Premium but lack of chargers data makes it nonsense in Poland, despite GreenWay mention above, in northern PL we have Energa Emobility, Lotos and lots of private chargers that do not exist in Your DB while easily found on Plugshare. Especially lack of new Energa fast chargers is anoying as they are free to charge. I would love to help, but copying half of Plugshare's PL records manually and looks like terrible way to do it especially taking in consideration Energa's and others growth plans. Do You see any other possibilities?

I live in WA, Australia, a area of the world which is poorly served by chargers. So, accurate charge site information is important to us here.

I enter sites of which I become aware of on the Open Charge Map site. As a method of adding sites to ABRP this seems to be quite reliable. However, because of the particular situation here, some chargers move to new sites - sometimes by moving 100s of Km. Adding the new site to ABRP via Open Charge Map works fine. However deleting the original site appears to be impossible.

For example I submit the site you have at https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?charger_id=2717753 This site did exist at Arthur River, WA. But this equipment has been moved to Jurien Bay, WA. I have managed to delete the Arthur River site from Open Charge Map but it still remains on ABRP. What's the answer.

Thanks

This might be my fault! I have a Google Sheet of DC fast chargers in Australia which ABRP also uses as a source.  I will get it updated today so hopefully tomorrow ABRP will get the correct data.

Excellent. ?

FYI at present there are two "mobile" rapid chargers in WA at present: Jurien Bay and Geralton. These may remain where they are for a year or two but may move when something more permanent replaces them.

Hi!

Pardon the much delayed reply!

We never intend to import private chargers, only public ones. If there are entire networks of public chargers missing in ABRP we fully agree that it would mean a lot of work to manually copy them from one source to say, OCM which we do import from. A better alternative could be to reach out to the charger networks in question asking them to have their chargers displayed in ABRP. This is also described in this blog post and we'd be more than happy to look into possible direct connections with more networks ?

Should be fixed - can only see Kojonup, Kattaning and Lake Grace in the region now.

I've been following Jon's fantastic work with the Biofil mobile DC chargers.  Brilliant initiative! ?

Hello
I add charging point into OpenChargeMap few days ago but don't see it in ABRP ("Proviridis Dourges", France, 62119 Dourges).
Something doesn't work?

Could you provide a link to the charger you added in OCM here?

Dear ABRP team,

I cannot see the following fast chargers in ABRP:

https://www.goingelectric.de/stromtankstellen/Deutschland/Wiesbaden/Medenbach-West-A3/22089/

https://www.goingelectric.de/stromtankstellen/Deutschland/Medenbach/Medenbach-Ost-A3/22090/

Could you implement them? According to the GoingElectric, the entries have been existing since 2017, and the latest changes were in March 2021.

Kind regards

Andreas

In this case we prefer data from plugsurfing instead as they can provide status, I can however see that not the same charger types or number of stalls are displayed.

It is possible to submit a report to Plugsurfing here: https://support.plugsurfing.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Ok, I see the station now on ABRP (very long delay) but in double.

sorry for that, but I don't know how share you a direct link to OCM or ABRP for this station :

https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?plan_uuid=32600e4e-89c9-4584-a1ab-766c5e94388a

Thanks

It might've taken OCM a little while to have the additon accepted, we fetch new charger information once per 24 hours.

I can however see that you've set the preference level for Ionity to 'use exclusively and prefer' which will prevent any other networks from being used in planning and if the charger belonged to a network other than Ionity it would not be visible on the map. Or was it an Ionity charger you tried to add?

I can see the stations by zooming with or without journey planned (and with Ionity prefered).
It's not a Ionity charging station.

The station is accepted by OCM for some day now but not appears after few day on ABRP.
Not important now ?
But the station is in double on ABRP ?

Other question : I want to add the "network" name for this station, but not available in OCM, so you don't ave this information too (OCM very long to answer to my request). Not possible by another way?
What is your recommandation to declare a new station? OCM? Other?

Thanks a lot

Hi @denischti59,

Okay we do have ways to avoid duplicates but sometimes the locations simply aren't similar enough to be recognized as duplicates. Could you link the charger information either from OCM or from ABRP? (You can generate a link to the charger in ABRP by clicking the charger then click share > share ABRP link.

What network does this concern? I'd believe you don't have to select a network in their list but in order to have a new one added you'd have to request it, supposedly on their forum: https://community.openchargemap.org/

OCM is the main recommendation. There are some other ways to add chargers and it can depend a little on what type it is but you can read about all of this in the article above.

Hi

These stations are the same

https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?charger_id=14326556

https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?charger_id=14409704

For the network, I have the answer of OCM, good now.
I added Total EV Charge in France and Proviridis/ZEN
